Thomas, Edward

In Pursuit Of Spring : With The Scarce Original Dustjacket Thomas Nelson & Sons : 1914

The First UK Printing published by Thomas Nelson & Sons in 1914. The Book is in Very Good+ condition. Original blue cloth, titles to spine and front gilt, illustrated endpapers with top edge gilt. Contemporary ownership inscription to the upper verso of the front end paper. Extremities a little rubbed with the endpapers superficially cracking at the bottom of the front hinge but essentially all sound. A few marks to the cloth. The six plates by Ernest Hazelhurst with printed tissue guards are all present. The scarce paper WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good + condition. Small chips to the corners and spine ends. Three small holes to the rear panel and a few minor marks. One small rubbed area to the front panel. Some tape repairs to the verso. The wrapper looks attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. Thomas' last and greatest work of prose , a record of his March 1913 bicycle ride from Central London out into the Quantock Hills In Somerset. The book is scarce in itself, but the wrapper is of considerable rarity. The last copy in wrapper recorded at auction was in 1983. Collectible
