Description

Complete in 38 volumes. Large 8vo. (9.4 x 6.3 inches). The Centenary Edition. Limited Edition of 3000 sets. This set is one of those without the limitation labels affixed to the flyleaves. Includes the 4 supplement volumes of Collected Essays published later, in 1976.

Bound in full publisher's vellum with gilt titles to spines and with Churchill's coat of arms stamped in gilt to front boards within a single ruled gilt border. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Silk marker in each volume. Including all the original dark green slipcases, each with the gilt stamped Churchill coat of arms on the front panel, for the 34 volumes of the works. The four volumes of Essays are without these slipcases. A few of these cases are rubbed or lightly marked, but overall very good. Bindings with differing degrees of browning to the covers, as is usual with this set, although this one is generally brighter than usually found and shows very well on the shelf. Illustrated throughout with numerous maps, charts, photographs and illustrations.

This set contains all 50 of Churchill's published titles, and was issued to mark the centenary of his birth. Originally published with a strict limitation of 3000, but in fact only about 1700 sets of 34 volumes were actually issued. This set also includes the matching additional 4 volumes of Essays, published 3 years later.
