BLOXAM, John Francis

THE PRIEST AND THE ACOLYTE with an introductory protest by Stuart Mason. FROM THE LIBRARY OF ANTHONY POWELL Lotus Press 1907

Description

First edition thus. Grey paper covered boards, with white title labels lettered in black on the spine and upper cover. Top and front edges untrimmed.

Provenance

From the library of Anthony Powell, bookplate on front pastedown.

Footnote

Originally published anonymously in The Chameleon in December 1894, this was mistakenly attributed to Oscar Wilde and was included in his libel case against the Marquis of Queensbury in 1895. In this edition Mason refutes the erroneous authorship and quotes widely from the court case.

Current Condition

A very good copy of a rare and fragile item. Spine ends showing a little wear, with some rubbing to the front joint and spine label fraying. Foxing throughout and some pages badly opened (no text affected).
